The Role

McCann FitzGerald LLP is one of Ireland’s premier law firms employing approximately 600 people. We have offices in London, New York and Brussels. We provide the highest quality legal advice and representation to Irish and overseas clients. Our clients are principally in the corporate, financial and business sectors and we also advise government entities and many state bodies, pension funds, and educational institutions.

We are currently recruiting a Legal Secretary for our pre-eminent Aviation Finance Group. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing secretarial and administrative assistance to the partners(s) and fee-earner(s) within the group and to assist them in providing a professional service to our clients.

Key Responsibilities

Responsibilities for this role include:

  • Secretarial support to fee-earners as required, ensuring that documentation and correspondence are produced to a high standard, in accordance with house style and to tight deadlines.
  • Assisting with weekly time entry on Aderant for fee-earners.
  • Billing: drafting narratives from Work in Progress Reports (Aderant) and producing reports. Preparation of transaction invoices to client and fee earner specifications.
  • Credit Control: following up on late payments as appropriate.
  • Preparing status update reports for clients on open matters.
  • Handling the consularisation and apostilling of documents.
  • Dealing with telephone queries and ensuring that such queries are handled in a professional, courteous and prompt manner.
  • Regular updating of electronic calendar for fee earners for both external and internal meetings and room bookings and occasional event management.
  • Organising travel arrangements.
  • Ensuring electronic and hard copy filing is up to date.
  • Other secretarial and administrative tasks and ad hoc projects as requested.

Experience, Knowledge & Skills

The successful candidate will have:

  • 5 years + experience as a Legal Secretary.
  • Very strong Microsoft Office skills –proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel is essential.
  • Excellent numerical skills and attention to detail.
  • A high degree of discretion and the ability to work with sensitive and confidential data.
  • Good time management skills, the ability to manage a busy workload and meet required deadlines.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively in a professional manner with all levels of the business.
  • A positive attitude, the ability to take ownership and responsibility for the completion of tasks and the ability to take and demonstrate initiative.


The successful candidate will have:

  • Leaving Certificate and preferably a Secretarial Course or Legal/Admin course (one year duration).
