Roddy Bourke is a litigation partner specialising in product liability and commercial and insurance disputes.
Roddy has acted in product liability litigation for manufacturers of vaccines, prescription medicines, blood products, hip prostheses, surgical equipment, chemical components, cigarettes, motor vehicles and other consumer durables.
His experience in defending large-scale (mass) tort claims includes drafting and leading a bespoke, Court-approved, ADR programme, where over 1,300 claimants had sued a medical devices manufacturer in Ireland. He acts too in hazardous substances litigation.
Roddy advises on product safety, labelling and advertising, and product recalls.
His recent commercial cases include the defence of competition and contract law claims against a motor manufacturer, D&O and professional liability proceedings, aviation and partnership disputes and advising on the enforcement of insurance contracts.
Roddy has served as chairman of the Irish Law Society’s Litigation Committee, Arbitration and ADR Committee and Law Reform Committee. He is an active member of the British Institute of International and Comparative Law Product Liability Forum.
