I studied Law Plus at the University of Limerick. In my third year I had the opportunity to embark on a 6 month placement programme with the Company Secretarial and Corporate Transaction teams in McCann FitzGerald. At this early stage of my legal career, I honestly was not sure if I wanted to be a solicitor but my experience with McCann FitzGerald was what sealed the deal for me. This was my first exposure to corporate law, and I couldn’t believe how much I enjoyed it.

I was offered a training contract and never looked back! Once I finished university, I rejoined McCann FitzGerald as a Project Assistant in the Construction department for 12 months while studying for my FE-1 Examinations. This experience was a great basis for my learning in the firm and there was a great cohort of other Project Assistants to motivate each other through the exam period.

Once I passed my FE-1 Exams I moved to the United States for 8 months before returning to the firm to start my Training Contract. I completed my 1st rotation with the Commercial Litigation team and have since returned from Professional Practice Course Blackhall Place to work with the Mergers and Acquisitions team in the Corporate department.

I am at the half-way point of my traineeship and I can’t believe how much I have learned and developed already due to the stellar training provided by McCann FitzGerald. I think that the opportunity to share an office with a Partner allows you to learn through osmosis and pick up a lot more information than you realise! Having the most talented and highly experienced Partners in the industry trickles down through each team to produce some of the best Associates who share their skills and legal knowledge with trainees – they are true mentors. McCann FitzGerald is committed to the continued professional development of their trainees, and we are constantly learning through department lunches, IT training sessions and weekly morning lectures.

My favourite thing about McCann FitzGerald is the open-door policy. I have never felt as though I could not ask a question and am constantly encouraged to do so. Each day I come to work I am greeted with friendly faces and a supportive, collegial environment, which is what allows my legal career to flourish – it is why I chose to train with McCann FitzGerald; I love the people!
