McCann FitzGerald supports the launch of the inaugural GC Powerlist of in-house counsel in Ireland

The inaugural GC Powerlist, the top 100 in-house corporate counsel in Ireland, was announced at a ceremony in McCann FitzGerald’s offices in Dublin last night. The GC Powerlist is a series of international publications highlighting the most influential in-house lawyers in business today.

Supported by premier Irish law firm McCann FitzGerald, international legal directory The Legal 500 identified the leading in house corporate counsel currently working in Ireland or those who head the legal function for businesses owned or operated in Ireland. Nominations were received from both law firms, business managers and from in house counsel.

Recipients of the accolade come from a broad and varied range of sectors, from banking and financial services to retail chains and consumer brands. The Legal 500’s team of researchers assessed the nominations and spoke to both general counsel and nominating-lawyers on the long-list to finalise the list. To be nominated a lawyer must demonstrate that he or she has been instrumental in changing or forming opinions within their company or industry; developing innovative technical solutions to complex legal and commercial issues; creating original structures to ensure that the in-house function drives the business forward; and providing a working business model that could serve as a model for other corporate counsel to follow.

Commenting on the announcement, Barry Devereux, Managing Partner of McCann FitzGerald, said: "On behalf of McCann FitzGerald, I would like to congratulate the corporate counsel that have been selected for this prestigious publication. This recognition highlights the valuable contribution, strength and innovation displayed by corporate counsel across Ireland. It also emphasises the increasingly important and expanding role of corporate counsel in today's business environment. We are delighted to be associated with this publication and look forward to developing further our partnerships and collaborations with corporate counsel as Ireland continues its economic recovery."

Dominic Williams of The Legal 500, said: "For 28 years, The Legal 500 has been analysing the capabilities of law firms across the world. With the GC Powerlist, we are turning our attention to the in-house function, and recognising those corporate counsel who are driving the legal business forward. For this latest edition, we have identified the most influential and innovative in-house counsel working in Ireland. We would like to congratulate all those selected; they represent the best and brightest legal minds in Ireland today."
