Jason Matthews | IT Support

Jason grew up around computers – two of his uncles worked in IT – so this was a natural career choice for him.

My background

'I find it easy to understand the technical side of things, so after school I decided to do a four-year degree in computer science at the National College of Ireland. In my final year, the career guidance person at the college suggested that I apply to McCann FitzGerald. I did my research and discovered that the firm invests significantly in IT. It looked like a good company to join, so I sent in my application.'

Life in the IT Department

Jason works in the firm’s IT department and says he finds it 'a brilliant place to work'. 'When I first started, I spent about three weeks being trained in on the various McCann FitzGerald systems and protocols. Today, I work in a team of eight, and a typical day for me involves replying to emails, answering the phone, setting up meeting rooms with screens and projectors – it’s busy, but we all work together and help each other out.' 'I’ve recently started training in information security, which is a really big area for the firm. Our clients obviously need to know that their data is protected, so there is a lot to learn about data confidentiality and implementing appropriate data access controls as well as protecting the firm from malware, phishing emails and various other security threats.'

Why McCann FitzGerald

Jason would advise any other IT graduate to consider applying to McCann FitzGerald. 'It’s a place where you can develop a real career and make great friends. I’m impressed by how friendly the place is. There’s always something going on – social events, fundraising days – I genuinely enjoy coming to work.'
