My career path

'I wasn’t completely sure what I wanted to do, and then I saw a legal secretarial job advertised in our local paper in Swords. I applied and ended up staying for nine years. It was a small firm, and eventually I decided to make the move.' Lorraine joined McCann FitzGerald in 2013 and currently works in the corporate department.

'You’re not just pigeonholed into a role; you can give your opinion and it will be listened to'

Day-to-day life

'You learn as you go, and I found that I quickly became familiar with the new terminology. You’re encouraged to ask questions, and everyone, from the trainees to the partners, is so helpful. I feel like I’m valued as well. I’m trusted to work on my own – I’ll get my instructions, but I can put my own spin on things. You’re not just pigeonholed into a role; you can give your opinion and it will be listened to.' While her days are often busy, she appreciates that there are still plenty of opportunities to get to know her colleagues.

The social life

'There’s always something going on! The social committee is great at getting people together at different times throughout the year – the Christmas party is always a highlight. It's a really great place to work.'
