Donncha Sexton | Start Strong Team
Donncha is a corporate lawyer with a passion for technology. He has always had a keen interest in the world of business, completing a masters in international business law in TCD. He particularly enjoys the relationships gained from assisting founders of emerging start-up companies on their journey to success.
Tell us a little bit about your career to date?
I studied law in UCC before going on to do a masters in international business law in TCD. I did a number of internships and placements throughout college before training in McCann FitzGerald and qualifying into the corporate department. My work is varied and always interesting and I have been heavily involved in working with start-ups since joining the team. When I’m not working with start-ups, I am a corporate M&A lawyer with a particular focus on energy M&A and projects.

What attracts you to the start-up world?
It’s exciting to work directly with founders who come up with an idea and grow a business from that. We work with start-ups from incorporation through to the point where a viable and successful businesses exist. There is a real sense of pride and accomplishment when a start-up reaches the stage where it becomes a known name, where a founders’ ambitions are realised or, indeed, when well-established companies are interested in acquiring the business.
What do you enjoy about working with start-ups?
Founders are always very passionate about their idea and their business. It’s easy to feed off their energy and enthusiasm for a project and it’s exciting to see a company grow and succeed. Because of this passion and drive the founders are always very responsive and work relentlessly to turn their plans for their business into a reality. It is extremely rewarding to play a part in seeing these businesses grow from an acorn to an oak tree.
