Tell us a little about yourself?

Rory is a corporate partner in McCann FitzGerald and, along with John Neeson, he has been a driving force in developing the Start Strong programme.

'The dynamism and creativity that abounds in the Irish start-up scene is incredible and endlessly interesting.'

Tell us a little bit about your career to date?

After completing my law degree in TCD, I joined McCann FitzGerald in 2002 and have worked in the corporate department since 2005. While a significant part of my practice relates to mergers and acquisitions, private equity and joint ventures, I have always had an interest in venture capital. I cut my teeth in this area acting for international VC investors such as Balderton and Intel Capital, however for the last 10 years or so I have been focussed what I view as the more interesting side of this type of work – acting for the company.

What attracts you to the start-up world?

The dynamism and creativity that abounds in the Irish start-up scene is incredible and endlessly interesting. It is great to be part of that vibrant scene and the next wave of great Irish companies.

What do you enjoy about working with start-ups?

Watching companies grow and the sense of partnership with the company and its founders that develops over time is very rewarding.
